Transportation procedures and absence excuses

Dear Parents and Families,

We would like to provide the necessary information to our parents so you may better understand the arrival/dismissal procedures of our school. The school has put in place certain guidelines that help to ensure the safety of all of the students that attend Theresa Primary School

Morning Routine - Arrival at School

  • Buses unload students at 8:45 AM to enter the school.
  • Students eating breakfast at school can arrive as early as 8:35.
  • Classes begin promptly at 9:00 AM each morning.
  • Students that are driven to school by family members should also arrive at 8:45 AM. This allows sufficient time for the child to unpack and get ready for class to begin.
  • If a child is dropped off after 9:00 AM we ask that the parent sign the child in at the office.

Bus Pass Procedures

The school recognizes that on occasion a child may have to go to a location other than their regular destination in the afternoon. We ask that a written note be sent to school with the child when a parent is requesting a child ride to a different location. When the request is received by the office the child will be provided with a bus pass.

  • Bus pass requests must be received at the school by 1:00 pm.
  • Bus pass requests must be provided in writing with the parent's signature.
  • Phone calls for bus passes will not be permitted unless the situation is deemed an emergency by the principal or assistant principal.

Each day Theresa Primary School transports a large number of students to and from school.

The above steps are put in place to ensure that our children arrive safely at their destination each day. Last-minute bus change requests are confusing to the children, and staff and disrupt the efficiency of our bus runs.

Afternoon Routine - Dismissal from School

  • Parents who would like to pick their children up from school should arrive by 3:30 so we may call the child to the office.
  • Students who are getting picked up will be called down at 3:30.
  • Students who are riding the bus will be escorted to their bus at 3:35.
  • Buses depart the school at 3:40.
  • There is no after-school supervision, so students that are not picked up by 3:35 will be placed on their regularly scheduled bus.

Absence Excuses from School

  • When a student is absent from school, he/she is required to bring an excuse on the day of return. This excuse must be written by the parent or guardian and should contain the following information: the date written, the child’s name, the date of absence, the reason for absence, and the parent's signature.
